6.2.7 Understand the significance of Queen Hatshepsut and Ramses the Great
Queen Hatshepsut was the first woman pharaoh of Egypt. She became pharaoh because her husband died and their son was to young to rule, so she became pharaoh of Egypt. Hatshepsut did make Egypt richer through war, but through trade. She did not trade with neighboring countries like other pharaohs instead she went to Punt, and brought back scented woods, rare herbs, live monkeys, spices, and potted trees for making incense.
Queen Hatshepsut also created obelisks to record her good deeds and achievements that she did for Egypt during her rule.
Ramses the Great was a great leader because Egypt was fighting with the Hittites, but Ramses II made the first peace treaty in world history with them. Ramses was also made Egypt larger through trade warfare and he attacked Nubia since he found out the land has a surplus amount of gold.
Ramses II created a temple for him called the Abu Simbel. The four statues that was Ramses in a godlike way were put to scare away grave robbers. Ramses ruled Egypt for 66 years and the cool thing was that the statues were 66 ft long.
